The Weird Concrete Story

This job was sold and poured by:

In May of 2017, it was time to pour the concrete floors in the garage and basement.

I got a couple bids and was considering which one to go with, as they were close in cost. Both bidders also told me they were about three weeks out in doing the job.

Then just a couple days later, on a Thursday, one of the bidders came to my door and told me they had to reschedule a job they had planned to work on, and that they could set up my job the next day, and pour it on Monday.

Since everything on building the house was already behind schedule, I thought this was a lucky break and said: “OK”.

Here are pictures of the concrete they poured.

When I talked to them about how strange the concrete looked, they said: “Oh it will cure out white.” … Six months later, it looked exactly the same.  … Since I was concerned that whatever was causing the discolorization, might also affect the integrity of the concrete,  I had it removed from the garage.

The concrete finisher who did the new concrete in the garage, said that the original concrete looked so weird, because it had excess calcium chloride in it, and was poured on a hot day.

My question was: “Who in their right mind would add calcium chloride to the concrete mix, when the temperature is 90 degree outside?”
